World No. 1 Team Owns Record Five LA Titles
Twins Join del Potro, Djokovic in 2010 Event
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 14, 2009
LOS ANGELES - The No. 1 doubles team in the world, Camarillo twins Bob and Mike Bryan, will look to add to their record haul of five titles when they return to the 2010 LA Tennis Open Presented by Farmers Insurance Group which will take place July 26-August 1 at the LA Tennis Center on UCLA's campus.
After winning the 2009 LA Tennis Open in July, the Bryans secured the ATP No. 1 team ranking in late November by winning the title at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London. It marks the fifth time the brothers have finished as the year-end No. 1 team.
"Southern California has produced many great tennis players, and Bob and Mike certainly are among an elite roll of champions," LA Tennis Open tournament director Bob Kramer said. "Finishing No. 1 five times is no small feat, and neither is winning this tournament five times. We're lucky to have so many legends as part of our tournament history, and I think it's fair to call the Bryans true legends. We can't wait to have them back in 2010."
The Bryans have won 12 straight matches in Los Angeles - all without dropping a set - while claiming titles in 2009, 2007 and 2006. The twins missed the 2008 event while earning a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympic Games.
Since debuting at the tournament in 1996, the Bryans own a 24-6 record in LA. They have teamed up to win seven Grand Slam titles and 56 titles overall, which is five shy of the career record 61 owned by Australians Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde.
In addition to their on-court success, the Bryans are among the most popular players on tour. They have won four consecutive ATPWorldTour.com Fan's Favorite awards. This summer, they released an EP called "Let It Rip," after several years of performing concerts with the Bryan Brothers Band.
The World No. 1 Bryan brothers will be joined in Los Angeles by two of the top five singles players in the world. Reigning US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro, who is No. 5 in the rankings, and 2008 Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic, who is ranked No. 3, have committed to play the 2010 LA Tennis Open Presented by Farmers Insurance Group.
The season ticket renewal process is underway now for the LA Tennis Open Presented by Farmers Insurance Group. Additional ticket packages will go on sale in the months before the tournament. Ticket information can be found at www.latennisopen.com
