Olympus US Open Series
Day 6 Preview: Semifinals
Tweet
Day six at the Farmers Classic presented by Mercedes-Benz is semifinal day in Los Angeles. All coming off of wins Friday, the four semifinalists are looking to reach their first final in the 2010 Olympus US Open Series.
American Sam Querrey will first face off against Serbian Janko Tipsarevic during the day, followed by Andy Murray and Feliciano Lopez in the evening session.
Murray doesn’t look to be in top form entering his third match of the tournament, citing a knee injury, but in an interview after his quarterfinal, he said he felt better than he did following his opener.
The Spaniard Lopez fought through two tough matches but said in a post-match interview that this is one of his best results.
Murray, the No. 1 seed, and Lopez, the No. 4 seed have met twice before, with Murray winning in two sets both times. But the Scot’s twitter account (@andy_murray) said that the two hit together just the other day, so it will be interesting to see the competitive dynamic in Straus Stadium Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
The only time Querrey and Tipsarevic played was in 2006, when Querrey was only 18 years old. The American came out on top, but it was a close, three-set match.
Tipsarevic is the only player left in the draw to have not dropped a set, and also the only one of the semifinalists to not have a first round bye.
The doubles semifinals will also be held Saturday. During the afternoon session, the Bryans will look to move one step closer to a record 62nd title. They have a 14 match winning streak in Los Angeles on the line entering Saturday’s semifinal against No. 4 seeds Rohan Bopanna and Aisam Qureshi.
In the other semifinal, Ross Hutchins and Jordan Kerr will battle Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer.
The afternoon session will start at 2 p.m., while the evening will get underway at 7:30 p.m.
Both singles semifinals will be broadcast live on ESPN2. Each of those telecasts will begin with a segment live from the Game Day Desk located on the top of Bruin Walk.
