Finals Day Preview

Farmers 355
Sunday is finals day at the 2010 Farmers Classic presented by Mercedes-Benz.  The top two seeds will face each other in a battle of young talent in the singles final, while in the doubles, the Bryan Brothers will take the court in pursuit of an historic record.

The singles final features the top two seeds, which has not happened since 1999.  The No. 1 seed Andy Murray of Scotland will square off against No. 2 seed Sam Querrey in a rematch of the 2010 Wimbledon fourth round.  In four meetings, Murray has not dropped a set to the American, but in a tournament where neither player has had an easy round, anything can happen.

Querrey has played inconsistently and has referred to himself as a "Debbie Downer" because of his negative attitude and two smashed racquets. Murray is also not in top form and has cited stiffness and a knee injury as hindrances to his play.

Despite the fact that both players have played close matches, (Murray has needed three sets in all but one match and Querrey has gone the distance every time), their play seems to get better every day.

Querrey has struggled with his serve, but was able to fire off 19 aces in his semifinal against Tipsarevic compared to a cumulative 25 in the first two matches.

The singles finals will take place after the doubles final, no later than 2p.m., in Straus Stadium.

The Bryan Brothers have powered their way through the doubles draw, leaving extremely talented pairings in their wake.

With this semifinal win, the twins from Camarillo will make an appearance in their 100th final, a tour record.

If they win Sunday, that will be their 62nd doubles title, pulling ahead of Mark Woodforde and Tood Woodbridge for most all time.

The team standing in their way is comprised of American Eric Butorac, the 2008 doubles champion in Los Angeles, and former UCLA Bruin Jean-Julien Rojer.

Woodforde, who watched the twins’ match today, was excited about the prospect that the SoCal natives could break the record "in their own backyard." He will be watching the match Sunday at noon in Straus Stadium.
